ExplorHEM Helicopter EM
Helicopter vs Fixed Wing Surveys
The Spectrem2000 and ExplorHEM systems are
complementary. The Spectrem2000 system is used
primarily for regional ultra-deep penetration surveys, in relatively
gentle terrain. Fixed Wing systems tend to be considerably more
powerful that their helicopter counterparts, but as a consequence of
their large scale, increased flying height and speed, energise a
large volume of earth per unit time, and therefore do not have the
spatial resolution apparent in helicopter borne systems
In contrast the ExplorHEM system is used in severe terrain, in
areas where fixed wings systems cannot operate as a result of
insufficient infrastructure, where high spatial resolution is
paramount and as a follow-up tool for Spectrem2000
surveys

The helicopter AEM consists of a helicopter with a suspended EM
bird. The helicopter houses all processing, recording and
navigational instruments. The bird, which is suspended 40m
below the helicopter houses the power source, transmitter, receiver
and control electronics.
Airborne Platform
Helicopter platforms options include the BK117, B205, Squirrel
B3 or equivalent.
Local helicopter and crew could be utilised. Maintenance of the
platform, air service permit compliance etc. will be the
responsibility of the contract aircraft operator. The ExplorHEM
system can be rapidly deployed on a rented helicopter.
Endurance dependent on both ambient temperature and altitude (2
to 3 hours).
Operating temperature range -28 °C to +38 °C ambient.
Suspended EM transmitter / receiver bird (no C.A.A.
certification required).
EM Bird length:20m (consisting of modular units) and Total bird
mass: 350kg
